"When he turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart." In a private ceremony Samuel had just anointed Saul as the first king over Israel. Then Samuel gave Saul a set of instructions concerning the next steps he should take to confrm his appointment by God as the new king. When Saul turned to leave and do the things that Samuel has instructed him to do, God gave him another heart. It's like God performed heart transplant surgery on Saul! Later the "
Spirit of God rushed upon him [Saul]" (vs 10). The act of God giving Saul a new heart is linked with the action of the Spirit of God rushing upon him and Saul is confirmed as the one to deliver Israel. When you accept God's calling on your life and start fulfilling that calling, God will give you a new heart and the Holy Spirit to empower you and enable you to accomplish His plans and purposes for your life.
