Irreverent Faith - Mark 10:46-52

"And Jesus stopped and said, 'Call him.' And they called the blind man, saying to him, 'Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.' And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus" (Mark 10:49-50, ESV).

Have you ever heard the saying, "It's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease!" This story from the gospel of Mark is a case in point for that saying.

As Jesus was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large entourage, blind Bartimaeus was sitting by the roadside. When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was approaching, he cried out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" (Mark 10:47).

Several members of the entourage rebuked Bartimaeus, possibly for his disrespect or irreverence, but he cried out all the more, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" (Mark 10:48).

Apparently, this effrontery captured the attention of Jesus because He called Bartimaeus over and asked what he wanted.

Bartimaeus responded that he wanted to recover his sight!

Upon hearing this request, Jesus told him that his faith had made him well. Immediately, Bartimaeus regained his sight and when he did, he began to follow Jesus.

So, what seems to us like impudence or impertinence, even irreverence, to God may very well be a personal expression of faith.

And, no cry for help goes unheeded by God.

But, why do we always wait until we are in crisis, until the situation is crucial, to call on God for help? When we are desperately in need, we don't dare let propriety get in the way of receiving God's supernatural intervention in our lives.

So, why wait until you are in crisis? Why wait until desperation sets in?

Let go of propriety! Cry out to God urgently, resolutely, expectingly!

God is waiting for you to call on Him. And, He is waiting for you to really, really mean it!

Then, your importunity will give God an opportunity to supernaturally  intervene in your life and become your Deliverer, your Redeemer!

"Yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs. And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." (Luke 11:8-9, ESV).
