A God Thing - Jeremiah 32:8

"Then my cousin Hanamel came to the guard’s courtyard as the Lord had said and urged me, ‘Please buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for you own the right of inheritance and redemption. Buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord."

Jeremiah was in prison because he had proclaimed to King Zedekiah and the people of Jerusalem that the Babylonians were going to conquer Jerusalem.

Although Jeremiah foretold of the coming Babylonian conquest and deportation of many of the Jews including the Jewish royal family, he also spoke of a bright future for Israel after the time of captivity:
"Look, the days are coming...when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah...I will put my teaching within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be My people...Look, the days are coming...when the city...will be rebuilt for the Lord" (vs. 31:31,33,38).

Through the circumstances and events of his life, God confirmed His word to Jeremiah.

Jeremiah's cousin came and offered him the right of redemption for family property in his hometown because Jeremiah held the legal right of inheritance to this property. So Jeremiah understood that this land purchase symbolized the future restoration of the promised land to the people of Israel as Jeremiah had foretold.

And Jeremiah was ecstatic about this newly-acquired knowledge and understanding: "Nothing is too difficult for You!" (vs. 17) Jeremiah declared in a prayer of thanksgiving to God.

Jeremiah was watching and waiting and listening for a message, a word, from God. And then God spoke to Jeremiah through the everyday events of his life to confirm His word and His will to Jeremiah!

Now Jeremiah knew that the message he had believed and proclaimed about God was true, that it was a word from the Lord, that it was God's will!

Jeremiah knew it was a "God Thing!"

Although I've never used the phrase, "It's a God Thing" before, I know it's much in vogue in Christian culture. But that phrase seems to aptly describe what Jeremiah was experiencing!

God's will works through the circumstances of our lives when we actively participate in accomplishing His will in our lives.

We actively participate in accomplishing God's will in our lives by watching and waiting and listening for a word from God, often through worship, Bible study, and prayer. When we seek God and His will, then God shows us His will.

In fact, God wants to show us and tell us His will so we can go out and do it and accomplish His plans and purposes.

When we believe God is speaking to us and then actually experience God in what we do--at home, at work, at play--then we know that what we have believed to be God's will is actually God's will!

And when we begin to experience God in what we do, then we will behold God's glory and be "transformed into the same image from glory to glory" (2 Corinthians 3:18).

In other words, everything we do will become a "God Thing."

And doing God's will is what we willingly do!
