God's Catastrophic Health Insurance Policy - Psalm 91:9-13

"If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!"  (Psalm 91:9-13, NLT).

This wisdom Psalm expresses confidence in God as the One Who provides protection against catastrophe for those who take refuge in Him.

His promised protections are like the comprehensive coverage of a catastrophic health insurance policy!

Some of the protections God promises to provide when He is your place of safety and you trust in Him (vs. 2,4):
  • He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease (vs. 3).
  • Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day (vs. 5).
  • Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday (vs. 6).
  • Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you (vs. 7).
  • No evil will conquer you, no plague will come near your home (vs. 10).
Those who seek refuge in God and love and trust Him will receive His all-encompassing protections--His comprehensive insurance coverage: deliverance (vs. 7-8), good health (vs. 3,6), supernatural strength (vs. 7), power (vs. 13), long life (vs. 16), and salvation (vs. 16).

Satan quoted vs. 11-12 when he tempted Jesus to demonstrate His power as the Son of God and throw Himself down from the top of the Temple and order His angels to protect Him (Matthew 4:6; Luke 4:10-11). But, Jesus responded that the Scriptures say not to test God, and thus Jesus asserted His divinity to Satan.

God's protections are for those who obey him (91:14) and take refuge in Him (vs. 9). God's protection is not provided to those who presumptuously claim His promises.

Let us take refuge in God and earnestly seek His promised protection when confronted with catastrophe or tempted by evil.

"These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.” (Mark 16:17-18, NLT).
