"Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures." You can read and study the Bible and appreciate its literary or historical value. However, true understanding of the Scriptures comes by Jesus revealing His Word by the Holy Spirit. Because God's Word is spiritual - "
and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" (Ephesians 6:17) - you must be spiritual (filled with the Holy Spirit) to truly understand its message of redemption: "
And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual" (1 Corinthians 2:13). Each time you read and study the Bible, always pray Luke 24:45: "Lord, please open my understanding as I read your Word today." Then you will be prepared for God to reveal His truth to you through His Word.
